Origin: China, Sichuan
Tea colour: black tea

Dry leaves:
Aspect: very nice leaves, perfectly rolled (as a black tea) with plenty of buds.
Colour: outstanding black colour with a golden predominance.
Scents: highly scented bouquet, rich and fruity (stewed fruit, yellow fruit, white fruit, apricot, plum, mirabelle plum, apple), woody (sandalwood), honey, toasted and vanilla notes.

Brewed leaves:
Scents: rich and remaining notes, warm bouquet: very woody (wax wood), honey, sweet vanilla, undergrowth nuances (mushroom) and toasted notes (cocoa, sweet caramel), stewed fruit and floral notes (freesia, peony).

Liquor:
Colour: coppery liquor, glossy and clear.
Texture: Afull and round, supple and thick, with a slight astringency in the back of the mouth that brings powdery texture and good persistence.
Flavours: a touch of sweet and acidity.
Aromas: very interesting, highly aromatic and complex. There is a huge amount of different notes right from the start: woody (sandalwood), undergrowth nuances (mushroom) and leather. Very stewed fruit, sweet vanilla, along with fresh floral and spicy notes, sweet and greedy (honey).
Aromatic profile and length in the mouth: elegant and full in the mouth. A continuous succession of notes that goes perfectly with the texture. Good woody, spicy and honey lingering notes.

Our verdict:
An exceptional tea from Sichuan, harvested on Wu Meng mountain. The plucking for this tea takes place in March and April, then in September and October. The Golden Tips has similar notes to those of Jin Jun Mei (a well-known black tea grown in the Wuyi mountains of Fujian, comprised only of buds).
A wonderful, very high quality black tea with perfectly rolled leaves and plenty of tips. A lovely plucking with a highly fragrant, very complex bouquet, made up of notes that contrast yet flow harmoniously without interruption: woody, leather, stewed fruit, vanilla, floral and spicy. A sublime, delicious and very elegant tea!

Throughout the year, our experts travel in the tea plantations looking for the best pluckings and new, rare, delicious teas.

The fact that we travel so extensively, that we taste and buy on location has many advantages and allows us to find rare crops by looking outside the traditional supplier circuit, to taste and to share with you the harvests of small plantations, which are often hidden away.

Visiting tea estates regularly and thereby establishing long-lasting relations with our suppliers allows us to guarantee regular quality control of the teas we buy, and to continue our mission: to bring you the best quality teas and to share our travels and experience with you, while concerning ourselves with environmental issues, working conditions on the estates and the fair trade practices to which we adhere.
