Origin: India, Darjeeling
Tea Estate: Singbulli

Dry leaves:
Aspect: lovely large twisted leaves. Large golden downy buds.
Colour: brown with lighter tones on some leaves.
Scents: pronounced woody notes with dried fruit (raisin, fig), cooked fruit, spicy and cocoa notes.

Brewed leaves:
Scents: woody, fruity (grape, muscatel), honey and a hint of cocoa.

Liquor:
Colour: clear and gleaming with a beautiful coppery colour.
Texture: very supple and smooth at the start, then a delicate, lingering astringency that sustains the notes nicely.
Flavour: a sweet attack with an acidity that makes this a very lively tea.
Aromas: woody, honey (beeswax), fruity (muscat grape, white fruit), a hint of dried fruit (raisin, dried apricot) combined with spicy accents (cinnamon, nutmeg) and hints of rose-floral, vanilla (vanilla sugar) and cocoa.
Aromatic profile and length in the mouth: very well balanced. A perfect succession of notes with a lovely length in the mouth.

Our verdict:
The Singbulli garden, which we are familiar with now, is situated in Mirik (Darjeeling district) and covers 475 hectares. The climate there is ideal for growing tea, with a maximum of 30°C in summer and a minimum of 2°C in winter. Established more than 125 years ago, 30% of the plantation is made up of young trees aged between 25 and 40 years, which produce the best clonal teas. These include varieties such as AV2 (Ambari Vegetative 2), P312 (Phoobsering 312), B157 and China Muscatel from Tingling, part of the Singbulli garden.
Harvested on the top of the Singalila Mountain Ridge (at 457 to 1,311 metres in altitude), this plucking is typical of autumnal clonal Darjeelings. Its delicious woody, fruity and sweet vanilla aromas linger in the mouth, while the supple, smooth texture is sustained by a delicate lingering astringency.

ADD A COMMENT

Throughout the year, our experts travel in the tea plantations looking for the best pluckings and new, rare, delicious teas.

The fact that we travel so extensively, that we taste and buy on location has many advantages and allows us to find rare crops by looking outside the traditional supplier circuit, to taste and to share with you the harvests of small plantations, which are often hidden away.

Visiting tea estates regularly and thereby establishing long-lasting relations with our suppliers allows us to guarantee regular quality control of the teas we buy, and to continue our mission: to bring you the best quality teas and to share our travels and experience with you, while concerning ourselves with environmental issues, working conditions on the estates and the fair trade practices to which we adhere.
