The Karuna-Shechen Association
Founded by Matthieu Ricard in 2000, Karuna-Shechen acts and advocates for a more altruistic world. In India, Nepal, and Tibet, the association works to break the cycle of extreme poverty and to help the most vulnerable men, women, and children realize their full potential. In 2024, more than 968,000 people benefited from support in the areas of health and hygiene, education, food security, economic development, and the environment.
Main missions
Food security, environmental sustainability, and vocational training are the main actions carried out by Karuna-Shechen among vulnerable populations in the Himalayas. To ensure the success of its projects, local teams conduct essential daily fieldwork to promote the empowerment of disadvantaged communities.
A Solidarity Initiative
Black Friday has, over the years, become a much-anticipated event for many of you looking for good deals. True to our values, we wish to offer a more responsible alternative—one that remains attentive to your needs and encourages thoughtful purchasing.
As part of the Black Friday For Good, Palais des Thés has chosen to renew its commitment to this association, which operates in tea-producing countries in the Himalayan region. Thus, for every €10 gift card used between December 2, 2025, and January 31, 2026, a €10 donation will be made to support the funding of a future project in Darjeeling.
Which initiatives are supported by Black Friday For Good?
In 2024, Black Friday For Good made it possible to raise over €118,000 for the association, helping fund the implementation of professional training programs dedicated to women, financial support for micro-enterprises, permaculture training, and more.
This year, the funds raised will once again go toward initiatives focused on the tea-producing region of Darjeeling, as part of a long-term effort to support local communities.
This is our way of giving new meaning to Black Friday, which we have renamed for the occasion “Black Friday For Good”: turning it into a driver of solidarity, where customers, associations, and companies come together in a more positive and responsible movement.
