This excellent lotus tea comes from the Hà Giang region of Vietnam. It is a green tea flavoured with freshly picked lotus flowers. The tea is harvested in May in Hoang Su Phi, at over 1,000 metres above sea level. It comes from a hundred year-old variety of tea plant, known as Shan plants. As for the lotus flowers, they are harvested in July.
The flowers are withered for 4 hours before the different parts are separated from one another (petals, seeds and pistils). The tea is then mixed with the seeds and stamens. The flavour of the lotus will thus be transferred by contact throughout an entire night until the stamens are removed early in the morning. This process will be repeated a number of times depending on the results until the desired aroma is achieved. This manual production process requires great know-how, dexterity and precision.
