This stoneware cup is decorated with floral patterns and small balls known as "temari" in Japanese. Traditionally made from fabric scraps of old kimonos and delicately embroidered, these balls are often given to children for the New Year. The patterns are printed on thin, flexible paper and then applied to the cup; Mr. Sabashi transfers them by hand using pressure and a damp brush.
